Managing Director’s Letter

The Société Centrale de Réassurance (SCR) celebrates its 45 years of doing business.

Confronted to a poorly developed and diluted insurance market right after the independence, Moroccan public authorities and the “Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion” (CDG) created an instrument of control, SCR, entrusting it with the mission to bring about a national identity to the insurance market, to regulate it and to optimize reinsurance covers in order to limit the outflow of foreign currency.

Through the years, SCR has become in a stronger and more transparent national insurance market a dominant player partnering with the most prestigious national institutional shareholders and with credible companies. In 2004, SCR satisfied up to 77% of Moroccan reinsurance needs and its retained premiums put it on the front to become the first reinsurer in the African continent and in the Arab world. Its actual 80% retention rate compares to those of large world reinsurers.

During these last 10 years, the company has become profitable thanks to rigorous management, team professionalism, a shared vision and to national awareness.

These elements constitute not only the richness within SCR but constitute also the driving force behind the many projects undertaken that will allow it to rise above future challenges in a changing environment.

The company is already getting ready.

Human Capital Empowerment and Total Quality Management are at the heart of the company strategy that may be broken down as follows:

  • To consolidate its position as a leader on the national market
  • To develop new missions in the general interest (missions d'intérêt general), specially in insurance through public and private partnerships: Catastrophic risks, Political risks etc…
  • To attract foreign savings by energizing international inward business; To reinforce equity which in turn comes as a support to the other projects that SCR has been undertaking for couple of years, some of which in partnership with the African Insurance Organization (AIO) and the UNCTAD have already implicated national and international insurers.
